Orquesta Dee Jay 45'- Calunga & Dona Paula ( Mango )

George Jesus put together what I believe still to be one of the strongest orquestas we've heard from the 70's. Both their lps ' Pa'lante Con La Orquesta Dee Jay ' & the recently remastered cd release of ' Forget It' on LatinSoul Records has fantastic strong arrangements. Calunga on this CD is a killer Son Montuno, starting off with that sharp brass solo played by Jerry Hernandez on top of an intricate 6/8 percussion intro, leading to those roaring trombones ufff man just gets better and better, simply brilliant. I believe that Jerry Hernandez is trying to form a return new era version to duplicate the sound and swing of Orquesta Dee Jay and is currently scouting for musicians. Can't wait to see and hear the finished results. Stay tuned, maybe they'll put out a recorded live album
