Frank Y Sus Inquietos ( Fonograma ) 1969 Venezuela

Ok so many people always ask me from time to time what my favourite artist is. Well I decided to answer you all in one hit.. My favouite group and lp which I am lucky to have in my collection is no other but the hard corest of salsa dura albums titled ' FRANK Y SUS INQUIETOS.

This amazing Septet from Venezuela lead and directed by the 2 brothers ' Efrain J Gonzalez G & Frank R Gonzalez G, produce some of the rawest and heaviest sounds one could ever imagine. The recording is very rough sounding and at times, and believe it could recoreded in a one take session. You know ...what I mean... everyone has a few drinks and what not and then gets in to a zone of their own, producing some silk for the ears and wind for the hairs on your arms.

Why I think this band is so unique is due to their unpredictablitiy. You think they are going to turn one way and bammm !!! they defy you.. over and over again. ' When I first heard this lp It was so confusing for me to pick the breaks. I am a percussionist and play bongo and timbal and well I was lost many times. I will let the samples speak for themselves. I also like the tamborine that is commonly hear over the montuno sections.

My favourite tracks are the first track on SIDE A ' LA LEY DA LA VIDA. It kicks of with a heavy piano montuno, introducing some killer percussion, laying the foundtion for the raw vocals sung in 2 part harmony most times by ' Miguel A Marcano & Tomas M Tovar. The vocalists gel as the perfect pair with signs of slight flat or sharp vocals at times creating a very rough and raw uniqueness. Both Miguel & Tomas like to also shout out pregones and chants. You can hear them always dropping a ' YYYY DICEEE, AHI NA MA, GUAGUANCO PA' TI GUAGUANCO PA' LLA, A COMMERRR and many more. There are many killer piano solo's also from Frank G and also some very PHATTT BASS breaks by Luis R Diaz Palcios on tracks like Rumba Del Solar. I also dig the short ' Descarga de Frank ' with some heavy timbal from brother Efrain J Gonzalez G.

Well to be honest with you all the tracks are smashing and definately have a signature in the product they deliver making it a very distinct band.
