Super Combo Uno - Triste Tumbao (Faces/2)

Heavy tumbao crossed with guaguanco, almost feels like a carnaval feel marching the streets on puerto rican day parade I guess, tasty mix for sure. track written by Genin Lamboy. Listen to ' Triste Tumbao '.

Steve Hernandez - The Booga Mambo Beat (Latino Records)

This is a kick ass killer recording by the amazingly talented Steve Hernandez and his south american orchestra. Vitin Aviles on vocals (Vitin is the mannn!!!), off da hook arrangements also from Ray Santos & Francisco Cabrera. 'Guaguanco Pa' Borinquen ' smooth guaguanco jam to make your head bop & 'Steves Impact' with that exploding sax to the stong percussion ufff sangreee !!! that is the standout slammers for me.power heavy duty quality stuff for sure.

Orquesta Suprema - Vol 2 The Salsa Family (Mfp)

Puerto Rican Orquesta recorded in 1974 in San Juan. Tasty tracks on here with the track ' Elije Tu ' from Beny More originally and also the slammer harder track to drop would be ' Alza La Pata Y Vete Flaca ' damm nice breaks, it almost sound like a dj is looping the party where the brass and perc repeats the breaks.

Rafael La Basta - Con Su Salsa Y Basta (Real)

Panamanian power with Basta at your service with I think of his best lps I have heard. I love to drop the descarga jam that totally shocked and still continues to shock the heck out of me on this record titled ' Asi Soy Yo ' with that strong sax and havy campana ta ta ta ta tiki ta with also tight breaks and amazing suprising moog guitar with a wahwah effect before finishing with that catchy sax riff to finish...aammaaziiinngggg 1st class descarga. Other nice strong guaguancos on here aswell worth checking out are ' Mercy ' & ' Soy La Candela '& also plenty of others on this great record..

Orquesta Del Sabor - Instrumental Sabor (INCA)

This is a strange and rare record that I stumbled across that contains all Tommy Olivencia tracks performed as instrumentals. Some killers on here like the very very very nice cha cha of ' Historia De Un Condenado ' strong trumpet lead over a swinging orchestra. Also a great version of ' Soy Dichoso '.

Rey Davila - Ya Era Tiempo ' On His Own ' (ORC)

Ok wow wow and more wow. The unique voice of Ray Davila on this rare ORC label has really got some jams for both listeners and dancers. For me the standout tracks are ' Sabroso ' with that percussion break that repeats before the piano and bass both playing same time in sincopation stabs while that haunting sax played by ' Marcus Cuevas ' sounding a little middle eastern exotica somewhat. Ohhh serious goosebumps material. I also love the descarga ' Robins Montuno ' with a bright sizzling flute played by Wille Hernandez '. Lastly the track ' Arriba Chico ' where you hear some great trumpet from ' Larry Spencer ' & some great piano montunos from the great ' Robin Holske ' who also is the director, lastly this track finishes off with a smokin timbales solo, played with saboorrr by ' Moises Jr Cuevas '. Love this record over and over. killerrr

Los Afro Ins - Goza La Salsa (Ins)

Colombian salsa with that barrio swing or as some like to call it basement salsa of what sounds like late 70s or perhaps also early 80's the record doesnt say what year...dammm it...I dig the track on here titled ' Esta De Bala ' and also ' Salsa Pindin '.

Felix Del Rosario - Y Sus Magos Del Ritmo (Montilla)

Great saxofonist Felix Del Rosario on Montilla with a kick ass record especially the 2 killer cuts that are ' Carmen ' & Vista Clara.

Los Nuevos Dementes - St (Velvet/)

Hard core salsa from Venezuela with slammers like ' Yo tengo Un Guia ' timbal timbal...I especially love to drop the son montuno ' Paz En El Alma ' and totally dig the part where the trombone fades out and brings the precussion in again...wicked wicked and then to top it off an amazing piano solo from Mr Perez ( Pa'llaa ) The other track that also sticks out and is different is ' Canto Bonito '. wowowow...amazing lp. ' Oyelo ' is a great guaguanco with a killer Mozambique break before the coro chants ' Yemaya Chango, Oye Mi Guaguanco ' off da hook shit...seriously...wowow

Adolfo Echavarria - Sabroso Bacalao - ( Fuentes )

Straight up colombian salsa dura with the solos and breaks just how we like it....durraaaa !!! sabroso bacalao I drop often

Rey Texidor - Let's Do It (RT Records)

Sammy Galarza & Gran Cachito on vocals here on this firey album made up of mainly puerto ricans and dominicans only 1 from NYC which is the pianist Jimmy Bee who does some smokin solos aswell. Funnily enough these cats also do a version of ' Carmen'. Plenty of killer cuts on here for the dance floor including ' Ojos Negros ' &ofcourse the jam ' Busca El Guardia'.

Orquesta Santurce - Salsa Mania (EG)

This is really interesting release from Puerto Rican band doing a tribute somewhat to the great Tito Rodriguez. All the musicians on here rock and I especially dig the version of ' Guaguanco Bonito ' with that smokin organ solo ufff sangre!!!! Rafi Sanchez also does a fantastic job on vox. Theres also really cool fender piano solos by Luisito Benjamin on a few tracks, Check out the samples here listen

Sonia Lopez Y Sus Estrellas - St (Fragoso)

Here is a tasty album from Sonia Lopez the conguera and leader of this outfit. 2 smokin guaguancos with the very catchy saxes playing that moña over and over....very nice...piano solo perfect for the dance floor salsa suave con estilo here and it is somewhat different to you regualr guaguanco, amazing piano solo off the chains, real tranquilo with a very unique sound for sure check out ' Me Encanta El Guaguanco '. I love when the lead singer scream AGOOZZAARRR!!!!

Porfi Jimenez - A Bailar Con Porfi (Velvet)

Simply love this version of ' Trinidad ' . Some what of a pachanga dura I like to call it anyways. Porfiro just swings mannnn!!!!!! listen to the break you'll see what I mean.

La Preferida Y Felix Carballo (MGM)

All round a fantastic production with slamming guanguancos ' Guaguanco De Vida ' with starting really slow and then changing gears superply to a faster tempo with a mesmiring piano montuno to the firey percussion towards the end. Also ' Verdadero Guaguanco ' not to mention and also great son montunos. Thank you Dj Guachi Guaro for giving me this record as a gift. you rock brother....You are also a Special Disc Jockey hehehe as the yellow record label pressing states which we found funny. haha (lol)

Ray Fernandez Y Su Corte - Salsa Y Estilo ( Sound Triangle)

This group is just gold everything they do I love even if its not salsa it just has this character like no other that I've heard. The play tracks from this lp for me is 'El Sapo' which has that funky synthesiser and hard campana and also love ' Tamanjari '.

Alfredo Linares - Yo Traigo Boogaloo (Fuentes/Mag)

Killer Killer Killer what more can I say. This is his second release after El Pito on Mag. Every track is a winner. I just love the whole record. ' Sabor Guaguanco '.

Ry.co Jazz - 5e Dimension (Debs)

A very rare french pressing from the 70s on the DEBS label. Only one slamming salsa tune on here with one of the tastiest piano solos you can find in pura salsa dura style with elements of jazz on ' Aimee 'oh my goddd and that rim shot on the timbal to bring it in back..dammmm kidddd !!!! I know what they say is aparently a little corny in french, however the music makes up for it. and the LA LA LALALA chants is very addictive & catchy.

Los Astros - St (CBS)

Mixture of tunes on here but has 2 nice salsa tunes, which you can also find on my cd ' QUE VIVA LA SALSA DURA ' Mi Salsa.

Willie Melendez - Tremendo ! ( Tari Records )

Well this guy was underated for sure. I especially dig the guaguancos ' Umbanda Soy ' and ' Hippie '. You can also check out Umbanda on my cd.

Orchestra Tentacion - St (Manana Records )

These guys have one of the most funniest write ups I have read on the back of an lp. It is a story about how they met and created this record. Click on the picture above to read it. Slammin trombones and wicked guaguancos on this record.

Pepe Y Su Banda - Pa Romper Los Huevos ( Orion )

Ecuardorian banda here with simply smoking descargas and guaguancos, Canto A Esmeralda wow what a jam with that strong timbal solo and montuno that just hypnotizes you and puts you in a zone. I love their version also of ' Cabo E'.

Orquesta Esencia - Fuerza Positiva ( Palo Monte Records )

Amazing musicians from San Francisco with a great quality recording on this rare label Palo Monte. This band does a really cheeky tune called ' Carnaval ' and not to mention the smokin descarga ' Esencia ' with that heavy barritone sax and percussion that just swings nad brings the house down.

Orquesta Riviera - No Dejes Camino Por Verdera ( Westside )

Very rare label on West Side with definatley the play track that sticks on dancers head ' Tu ' smooth silky vocals and strong solos. Very tight...for sure...

Luis Santi Y Su Conjunto - El Bigote ( Iempsa )

This lp is special to me as I think in the track ' La Norguesera ' is about my story and how I met my wife and came to live in Norway. Love the kick drum and the rawness of this guaguanco. Very kewllll...

Ray Santos - Los Mejores Musicos De Puerto Rico ( Gema )

La Costa Brava is a kick ass descarga with great solos, heavydance floor stuff here with the sharp stabs of the saxes once again bring me to my knees. Very contageous tune....ohh yesss
